Recap of Running a 40k League and Tournament, and Plans for the Future

For most of this past year, from early March until its conclusion on the 1st of December, I have been running a 40k ladder campaign at The Outpost in Sheffield. The rules for this ladder campaign were taken from pages 117-118 of Chapter Approved 2017. The system is very simple. Players get added to the ladder as they play their first games. A win causes the winning player to swap places with their opponent if they are below them in the ladder, or to move up one space if they are above them. A draw leaves players where they are. That's it! The ladder would function perfectly well as just a list of names, but I decided that to give it a bit more of a proper league feel I'd include win, loss, and draw records for the players, as well as statistics for current and best winning streaks. This is how the ladder looked at close of play at the end of November: Overall I think it went pretty well. I was pleased with the inclusion of win, loss and draw, as well as th

40k 8th Edition 2000 Point Battle Report - Dark Angels vs Craftworlds

This was my second practice game in my preparation for running an old school Greenwing force at a tournament in January. This run of games started well with a victory against an all Primaris Raven Guard army the week before. This game, however, would see me come up against a real Stilton to the Primaris medium Cheddar, an army, who, ever since their codex got released, I've done consistently poorly against: Craftworld Alaitoc. Index Craftworlds was far preferable to the current situation. Overpriced and easy to kill, back then they were just an army whose elite profiles were vastly over-pointed. Now that's just Space Marines of all stripes, and Eldar have gone into warp drive. Anyway, this is meant to be a learning experience: of trying to make a supposedly weak army work and finding ways to win no matter what it comes up against. Let's see if we can manage it in this one! Armies, Mission and Deployment These were my boys. It was virtually the same

2000 Point Battle Report - Dark Angels vs Raven Guard This will be the first in a series of battle reports in which I try to make a decent go of running an old school Greenwing list. That’s right, I’m going to go full 40k hipster and try to make do without any of the Dark Angels ‘good stuff’: that means no Darkshroud, no Hellblasters, no Dark Talons, just a bunch of Devastators and some Tactical Marines and characters in transports.       The aim is to become familiar enough with the list as to have a good go at Best in Faction at a tournament that I’m attending in January, the Caledonian Uprising at Element Games in Stockport, UK. To that end, I’ll try to get a game in with the list every week against some hopefully tough lists, and report what went well and what can be improved e upon on here.      The Caledonian tournaments are also events which reward the hobbyist, so I’ll also have a go at one of the painting prizes. I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to come up
